The Biden Administration remains hard at work in their ongoing efforts to trample Americans’ free speech rights and silence people of faith.
The Department of Education recently notified the public of the Administration’s intention to roll back the First Amendment rights and freedoms of on-campus religious groups at public institutions of higher education by gutting the Religious Liberty and Free Inquiry Rule. Apparently Deep State bureaucrats consider protections of your fundamental rights to be “unduly burdensome” and “not necessary to protect the First Amendment right to free speech and free exercise of religion.”
This is simply not true. Public colleges and universities that receive federal funding have repeatedly discriminated against religious organizations by evicting them from campus and stripping them of the right to access the same funding or communicate with students via the same school email, websites, or events as nonreligious groups. Stricter standards have often been unjustly applied to religious groups versus nonreligious groups, including forcing religious groups to accept members or leaders that actively disagreed with an organization’s beliefs or mission.
The current rules, which President Biden wants to eliminate, require that public colleges and universities ensure that religious organizations are afforded the same rights, benefits, and privileges as nonreligious groups or else lose access to federal education grants. Please comment on the Department of Education’s notice of proposed rule making (NPRM) to ensure that the free speech and religious freedom rights of on-campus religious groups are protected.
