The leftist war on American energy has produced a significant increase in the prices at the pump and threatened U.S. national security. The American energy renaissance made us energy independent for the first time in history, brought down both costs and emissions, and created good-paying jobs for thousands of Americans, many without a college degree. Low global prices driven by North American production meant less money flowing to the malign regimes in Iran, Venezuela, Russia, and elsewhere. Regardless, the Left continues to push the Green New Deal, a set of proposals that empower China, costing our country trillions of dollars and millions of jobs in the process. Rather than incentivize production at home, they negotiate with thugs in Venezuela and Iran to bring down prices that are, at the moment, politically inconvenient. Innovative renewable energy sources have an important role to play in our future, but so do American oil and gas. Market forces that have driven down U.S. emission for decades—not insulated bureaucrats with no real-world experience—should be allowed to dictate the speed of adoption of new technologies.
